A two-time Emmy winner and inductee into the Dayton (Ohio) Area Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Joe Smith is a respected broadcast journalist whose career has spanned the United States.  

From 2018-2021, he served as co-anchor of "NBC Palm Springs Today," receiving a 2021 Emmy nomination for Program Host/Moderator/Correspondent from the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).  

As a business reporter for KGW-TV in Portland, Oregon, he earned an Emmy Award for news writing from the NATAS Northwest Chapter.  

For his role as host and executive producer of a nightly public affairs program on Milwaukee Public Television in Wisconsin, he received an Emmy Award from the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of NATAS. He has received five additional Emmy nominations.   

At WKEF-TV in Dayton, Ohio, he served as vice president in charge of local programming and hosted and produced a weekly news and public affairs call-in program. He also hosted and produced news and entertainment specials. In 2017, Smith was inducted into the Dayton Area Broadcasters Hall of Fame.  

In addition to his work in broadcasting, Smith has been active in the communities in which he has worked. He is a past president of the Milwaukee Press Club and was the only broadcaster asked to serve as a communications consultant to the Wisconsin State Legislature as it explored plans for continuing television coverage of the House and Senate. He is a past president of the Milwaukee Press Club.

He is currently a member of the Board of Governors of the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) and is vice chair of the Board of Trustees of United Cerebral Palsy of the Inland Empire (UCPIE). Joe moved to the Coachella Valley and now resides with his wife Barbara full-time in La Quinta.
