A Love Letter to Our Local Libraries
Where Curiosity Meets Community
You can learn a lot about a community by spending time in its libraries, and lately we have been spending a lot of time in ours. Across five libraries in the Coachella Valley, our youth and Friends have shown up for stories, snakes, ramen, crochet, and just about everything in between.
La Quinta Library
Karina and Marisol are regulars here. They say hello to the animals that call it home, settle in to play, and always leave with new books to read. It's become one of their favorite places.
Palm Desert Library
For Belinda and Marisol, a quiet afternoon of reading over lunch has become part of the routine. Picking out a book together has turned into one of those small rituals that makes a big difference.
Coachella Library
A crochet class introduced a few of our youth to a brand new skill, one stitch at a time. The library was also a perfect stop when our friends at Gear It Forward and the Coachella Valley Firebirds came through, where Sky and her sister read all about hockey and got creative with some art.
Indio Library
The Indio Library brought "Ramen for Everyone" to life, with kids building their own ramen bowls and practicing chopstick skills by picking up gummies. It has also been a destination on adventures through Downtown Indio, a reliable stop for stories before heading out to explore the city.
Cathedral City Library
Kevin and Zorro met The Reptile Hunter and held snakes like pros while their Friends cheered them on from a comfortable distance. The boys jumped right in, the grownups were impressed, and everyone left with a story to tell.
What we love about libraries goes beyond the books. They are welcoming and free, and they offer programs that introduce kids to new ways of looking at the world. During the summer months especially, when school is out and structure can be hard to come by, libraries give our youth a place to land. A place to be curious, creative, and right at home.
Thank you to our local libraries for being exactly what our community needs.
