Learning looked a little different at the Clubhouse last week, and that was very much by design.

We were grateful to welcome two community partners whose work supports learning, health, and long-term stability for both youth and their families. Flor, an Educational Services Coordinator from the Riverside County Office of Education, met with parents and caregivers to share information about the CalKIDS Program, a statewide initiative that provides college savings accounts for eligible students. By creating space for caregivers to learn, ask questions, and better understand the resources available to their children, we help families feel informed and empowered as advocates for their youth’s future.

At the same time, our Clubhouse was buzzing with curiosity as Hugo, an Education Specialist with the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District, led a hands-on science lesson for our youth. Through interactive activities, youth learned about mosquito control and the science behind a mosquito’s life cycle, from egg to adult. To bring the lesson to life, the kids created holiday-themed mosquitoes and took home science kits so the learning could continue beyond the Clubhouse.

This dual approach reflects our model of working alongside children and caregivers together, in partnership with trusted community organizations. While youth explored science through play and creativity, caregivers gained access to information that can have a lasting impact on their children’s educational pathways.

We are deeply thankful to the Riverside County Office of Education and the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District for meeting families where they are and helping us create learning experiences that extend beyond academics. When community partners invest in both youth and caregivers, they strengthen the network of support that surrounds each child today and into the future.
