There are places in the Valley that our kids might pass by a hundred times without ever stepping inside. Exquisite Desserts in Palm Desert is one of them. A boutique bakery run by Chef Samantha Ward, who has been handcrafting cakes and pastries for the greater Coachella Valley for over 25 years, it is the kind of place that feels like it belongs in a different world. This spring, Chef Samantha opened her doors and invited our youth and mentors in.

Our program youth came with a full crew of mentors, old and new, because this spring our team has been growing right alongside the kids we serve. Chef Samantha walked everyone through how a professional bakery operates, from the ingredients she sources to the care that goes into every batch. Everything at Exquisite Desserts is made from scratch, no pre-made mixes, no shortcuts, and she brought that same standard to her time with our kids.

Then came the cookies. Spring-themed sugar cookies in the shapes of butterflies and flowers, each one waiting to be decorated. Every child chose their own toppings and icing and made something entirely their own. Same cookies, completely different creations.

We are so grateful to Chef Samantha and the team at Exquisite Desserts for sharing their time, their kitchen, and their craft with our families. This is what it looks like when a community shows up for its kids.
