Growing Confidence and Community With Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
For Neo*, Brazilian jiu jitsu has become much more than an after-school activity. Through Flow Academy’s commitment to making their program accessible, Neo found a place to build confidence, learn new skills, and connect with peers in a supportive environment.
Before starting BJJ, making friends did not always come easily. Over time, the structure, teamwork, and encouragement he experienced at Flow Academy helped Neo feel more comfortable and included. He began forming friendships, getting invited to birthday parties, and showing up each week with excitement for the sport.
When changes in family circumstances put his ability to continue at risk, The Martin and Ann Goldstein Family Foundation stepped in to help. Created to provide immediate, meaningful impact for families in the Coachella Valley, the Foundation ensured Neo could continue participating in the activity that had become such an important part of his life.
Thanks to the generosity of The Martin and Ann Goldstein Family Foundation and the welcoming community at Flow Academy, Neo is able to keep learning, growing, and building connections that support his sense of belonging.
