La Conchilla Clubhouse Ribbon Cutting

A New Chapter for Youth Mentorship in the Coachella Valley

On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Friends of the Children – Coachella Valley proudly celebrated a major milestone with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for La Conchilla Clubhouse. As one of the newest chapters of the national organization Friends of the Children, we were honored to welcome approximately 75 guests to celebrate the launch of our chapter and the beginning of our work supporting children and families in the Coachella Valley.

A Space for Growth, Mentorship, and Community

La Conchilla Clubhouse is more than just a building. It’s a space where youth will be supported, empowered, and encouraged to explore their talents and interests. The event served as an open house, allowing guests to tour the clubhouse and learn about our mission to provide long-term, professional mentorship for youth facing the greatest obstacles.

The City of Indio hosted the event, with Indio Mayor Pro Tem Elaine Holmes presenting a Certificate of Recognition to commemorate the occasion. Additional certificates were presented by California Assembly member Jeff Gonzalez, State Senator Steve Padilla, and the Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce, recognizing the impact Friends of the Children – Coachella Valley is poised to make in the region.

Our Executive Director, Karrie Schaaf, expressed gratitude to elected officials, supporters, community partners, and the donors who helped make La Conchilla Clubhouse a reality. Board Chair DJ Wilson provided a brief history of the organization and emphasized the chapter’s early work in Indio and Coachella, reinforcing our commitment to creating generational change through mentorship.

A Moment to Celebrate

Following the official ribbon-cutting, guests were invited to explore the clubhouse, meet Professional Mentors (Friends), and hear firsthand about the life-changing impact of consistent, long-term mentorship. Staff from Coachella Valley Unified School District joined to share their insights into the importance of this work in the community. Guests also enjoyed cookies generously donated by Crumbl La Quinta and Kookee Batch while networking and learning about ways to get involved.

Looking Ahead

The ribbon-cutting event was a joyful and inspiring moment, highlighting the significance of La Conchilla Clubhouse as a safe and welcoming space for youth to thrive.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a success. We look forward to continuing to serve the Coachella Valley, empowering children through 12+ years of professional mentorship, and ensuring they have the support they need to succeed. No matter what.
